Việt Nam and Singapore are intensifying their political trust and strengthening strategic coordination, with a focus on technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31, with Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighting the evolving bilateral relations that now extend beyond traditional economic ties to future-oriented sectors. These efforts aim to bolster long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
The elevation of this relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 underscores the deepening political trust and shared strategic interests between the two nations. Singapore continues to be one of Việt Nam’s vital economic partners, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. The partnership is reflected in thousands of active projects across key sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. The Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network stands out as a significant symbol of this collaboration, as it evolves toward greener and smarter industrial models in line with sustainable development goals.
Both countries are also enhancing cooperation in cutting-edge areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both Việt Nam and Singapore. Economic cooperation is expected to be a central focus during Tô Lâm’s visit, along with strengthened collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.
One of the key initiatives, “Tech Connect,” is anticipated to forge stronger links between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. Additionally, the visit is set to support the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.
During his trip, Tô Lâm is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent regional security forum. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as a testament to Việt Nam’s growing international stature and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
