Vietnamese President To Lam has embarked on a significant four-day state visit to Singapore starting May 28, with the primary objective of bolstering bilateral cooperation and furthering the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership anticipated to be in full effect by 2025. This visit marks an important step in the growing diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During his time in Singapore, President Lam is set to engage in high-level discussions with key Singaporean leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The agenda for these talks is expected to cover a range of topics, focusing on strengthening economic ties, boosting investment, enhancing technology cooperation, and fostering regional collaboration.
A notable event during President Lam’s visit is his keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, which represents his inaugural major international speech on Vietnam’s foreign policy since he became president in April 2026. This address is anticipated to provide insights into Vietnam’s strategic outlook and its role in regional and global affairs.
The visit also highlights expanded cooperation in areas such as science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, facilitated through the Vietnam-Singapore Tech Connect Initiative. Moreover, both countries are advancing efforts on the next stage of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP 2.0), aiming to incorporate smart technologies, sustainability, and green development to attract high-value investments.
This state visit underscores the deepening strategic and economic partnership between Singapore and Vietnam, with both countries eager to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors, enhancing their mutual growth and development on the international stage.
