The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has named Heng Swee Keat, former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, as its inaugural chancellor. This appointment, which takes effect on June 1, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the institution. Heng will serve a five-year term, ending on May 31, 2031, during which he will occupy the highest ceremonial position at SIT, acting as the university’s primary ambassador.

Heng’s current roles include chairman of the National Research Foundation, a director at GIC, and a member of its Investment Strategies Committee. His previous roles include serving as Deputy Prime Minister from 2019 to 2025, Education Minister from 2011 to 2015, and Finance Minister from 2015 to 2021.
