Easterly Winds Bring Flood and Landslide Risks to Southern Luzon

Heavy rains are forecasted to affect several areas in southern Luzon, Philippines, as easterly winds bring moist air from the Pacific Ocean. Residents in Quezon, Rizal, Laguna, Aurora, the Bicol Region, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and northern Palawan should prepare for rainfall expected to range from light to moderate, with potential for heavier downpours in certain locations.

In addition to southern Luzon, the Visayas region is also expected to see significant rainfall. Western Visayas is likely to receive the most precipitation, while Eastern Visayas will experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms. The anticipated moderate to heavy rain in these areas poses risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable locations.

Meanwhile, northern Luzon is projected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain due to northeasterly winds. Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and other parts of Calabarzon may experience partly cloudy conditions, along with isolated showers and localized thunderstorms.

Across Mindanao, generally fair weather is expected in the morning, characterized by partly cloudy to sunny skies. However, localized thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon and evening, especially in Northern Mindanao, the Caraga region, and the northern Zamboanga Peninsula.

Authorities advise residents in areas prone to flooding and landslides to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution during periods of heavy rain. Carrying umbrellas and being prepared for sudden weather changes are recommended to ensure safety.
